JGP Riga Roster Links & Quick Analysis, Pairs & Ice Dance

This roster is finally out, and I have managed to locate footage on the net of all the skaters in pairs and ice dance except the Lithuanian team(she apparently skated low-level pairs in Russia back in 2012, but noone has uploaded video of it, and there’s no records of him I can find), and have quick analysis. (Singles will be done next week; when South Korea should announce their skaters following the skating of their qualifying event)

Pairs

1 Dylan CONWAY / Dustin SHERRIFF-CLAYTON CAN
2 Mary ORR / Phelan SIMPSON CAN
3 Xiaoyu YU / Yang JIN CHN
4 Mingyang ZHANG / Zhong XIE CHN
5 Marin ONO / Hon Lam TO HKG
6 Ekaterina PRIBYLOVA / Jegors Nikita ADMIRALOVS(no video available) LAT
7 Arina CHERNIVSKAIA / Antonino SOUZA-KORDYERU RUS
8 Evgenia TARASOVA / Vladimir MOROZOV RUS
9 Maria VIGALOVA / Egor ZAKROEV RUS
10 Christina ZAITSEV / Ernie Utah STEVENS

One wonders why only Russia is sending three pairs, two of which, Tarasova & Morozov & Vigalova & Zakroev, will likely share the podium with Yu & Jin; it would take a huge step up for the skaters involved for any of the other teams to medal. Which of them will be where, though, could very much depend on how much they improve over the summer and even more on how they are on the day. Yu & Jin have the strongest record and Tarasova & Morozov the weakest. One wonders, however, why Yu & Jin still can’t move up; this will be their fourth year on the circuit.

Ice Dance

1 Kristsina KAUNATSKAIA / Yan LUKOUSKI BLR
2 Mackenzie BENT / Garrett MACKEEN CAN
3 Estelle ELIZABETH / Romain LE GAC FRA
4 Peroline OJARDIAS / Pierre SOUQUET FRA
5 Florence CLARKE / Tim DIECK GER
6 Kathrin HÄUSER / Sevan LERCHE GER
7 Reka STAUDT / Mate STAUDT HUN
8 Sara GHISLANDI / Giona Terzo ORTENZI ITA
9 Olga JAKUSHINA / Aleksandrs GRISHINS LAT
10 Jekaterina MAKEJEVA / Aivaras STRAVINSKAS LTU
11 Kristina BAKLANOVA / Andrei BAGIN RUS
12 Eva KHACHATURIAN / Igor EREMENKO RUS
13 Daria KOROTITSKAIA / Maksim SPODIREV UKR
14 Lorraine MCNAMARA / Quinn CARPENTER USA
15 Elliana POGREBINSKY / Ross GUDIS USA

Bent & MacKeen are the only past medalists in this field, top five at Junior Worlds last season without skating their best, and the tentative favorites, though if they don’t win they will very much be going in the wrong direction. Also expected to move upward and claim their first JGP medal are McNamara & Carpenter(just missed at their second event last year) and Korotitskaia & Spodirev(4th and 5th at theirs), but they may be potentially threatened by and Baklanova & Bagin(8th at their only event last season), & Pogrebinsky & Gulbis(6th & 11th at theirs).
