Really these two have to be done together, since Jemma’s story can’t help but depend on what state Fitz ends up in and when he ends up in it. Though I’m hoping if he’s bedridden for a long time she does get a story or two of her own.
Indeed, it would be interesting to see her trying to function without him, being the only one in the lab, especially when he’s the more idealistic and loyal of the two of them. Not that she needs a reason to stick around anymore, so long as he remains in Coulson & co’s care, though if we want more betrayal amoung the main cast, I could actually see her betraying them if she thought it would help Fitz in a heartbeat. The actress has confirmed he’ll be her priority, and though we can’t know for sure that she’s right because none of them are being told much about the next season yet, that definitely makes sense.
On the other hand, if and when he finally does recover, what happens between the two of them? The producers have also been talking like she doesn’t return his romantic feelings, at least at this point in time, and it doesn’t sound like she’s going to very soon, though it would be a nice thought that eventually it might happen. But can they really just be friends until then? It would be painful indeed if they couldn’t be, but that might just encourage the writers. Especially if she then starts getting closer to Triplett, though personally, I hope she turns to Skye more instead. Or perhaps they both turn to Skye, and she promptly starts trying to convince Jemma she’s in love with him just so she doesn’t have to put of with their both crying to her all the time. 😀
And if they cameo in the Avengers movie, which I continue to hope for even with Clark Gregg saying he doesn’t think it’s going to happen, there must be a scene where she and Bruce Banner start talking crazy biochemistry babble, with Fitz if he’s recovered, and the other Avengers and Coulson’s group are left mystified.
