It’s bad enough having to withdraw from Worlds, and one hopes she’ll be okay for the next season. But to have everyone rejoice in it, the way they are? Yeah, everybody loves Mirai, but the celebrations on Twitter yesterday, including one from a fellow skater, were bordering on disrespectful. Just because the USFSA chose Polina over Mirai for Sochi two years ago, a decision which, face it, has been very much validated retroactively, does not mean it’s right to hate her forever.
I may be looking forward to seeing Mirai now, but I genuinely am sorry to lose this:
And hey, like it or not, she has very much established herself as the American #3, and there’s a good chance she will be back to Worlds next year.
